Gigi Hadid has posted a response to people claiming the model is “too skinny, ” stating she would no longer explain the way her body appears.

Hadid posted a series of tweets explaining that changes to her body are a result of treatment for Hashimoto’s disease.

According to the NHS, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is a condition “caused by the immune system attacking the thyroid gland, ” which can lead to “tiredness, weight gain and dry skin.”

“You may not know that when I started@ 17 I was not yet diagnosed w/ Hashimoto’s disease; those of u who called me “too big for the industry” were realise inflammation& water retention due to that, ” wrote Hadid on Twitter.

She added that she’s been “properly medicated” over the past few years to deal with “metabolism issues” among other symptoms.

“I have always feed the same, my body merely manages it differently now that my health is better, ” wrote Hadid.

“I may be “too skinny” for u, honestly this isn’t what I want to be, but I feel healthier internally and […] am still learning and growing with my torso everyday, as everyone is, ” she continued.

The model concluded by stating that she will not “further explain” the route her body seems, “just as anyone with a torso form that doesn’t suit ur “beauty” expectations shouldn’t have to.”

She recommended readers to “learn to have more empathy for others” and to realise that “you never really know the whole story.”

“Use your energy to lift those that you admire rather than be cruel to those u don’t, ” she concluded.
